Fish-A-Thon 2011: Team Toads

Kevin Workman, Joshua Workman & Caleb Workman
Water: MO River

Team Toads in Recycled Fish 24 hour FishAThon

ISSUE: The Missouri River is not only suffering the well-publicized record-setting high water this year, it’s suffering the effects of pollution and invasive species.

Solution:Litter is more than an eyesore, the damage it causes can be an eye opener. Our team will demonstrate how beautiful an area can be without trash by photographing our fishing area before and after we’ve visited it. Unfortunately, some anglers leave behind trash, but We Are Stewards. We clean up any area we fish. That means helping preserve access, while eliminating risks to fish and wildlife posed by discarded fishing line, Styrofoam, six-pack holders and other trash. We encourage other anglers to follow our lead, wherever you fish.

Invasive species also threaten our lakes and river systems. On the Missouri River, that includes Asian Carp. Although the 24 Hour Fish-A-Thon is a catch-and-release event, we cannot ethically release Asian Carp, so we will demonstrate how to harvest and utilize these destructive fish. For instructions on cleaning Asian Carp, please see this web page: http://www.ibowfish.com/KBF/silvercleaning.pdf
