Team NEFGA1 Fishathon - Recycled Fish

We have decided to use Lake of the Woods as our "home" waters, as it has fallen victim to many of northern Indiana's pitfalls (invasive Milfoil, over harvest, area agriculture draining directly into the lake, etc.). The amazing thing about this, and many other area lakes, is its ability to sustain a fairly productive fishery.

We feel the first steps in polishing this "diamond in the rough" begins with education through the local conservation club, area tackle shops, public access notifications, fishermen/women interaction, and a general awareness of how great our area lakes and rivers can be by simply taking the time to check boats and trailers for "riders". Spraying every summer for weeds is a quick fix for people, but detrimental for our fisheries structure.

Simply planting native flowers and grasses as a buffer on the shore line and adding a "buffer" area at all incoming ditches will work wonders on the overall water quality of the lake AND the Yellow River that it flows into.

We also aim to shed a light on the local myth that says "if you catch it, you should keep it" by making this fish-a-thon a first for our area!
