Fish-A-Thon 2010: Team Steelhead

Fishing: Mosquito Lake
Issue: Reducing fishing impacts on bird life

Mosquito Lake has a protected marsh which provides nesting, feeding, and living habitat for many different species of birds. Lead weights and lures contaminate the water, diving birds and eagles ingest lead and die of lead poisoning. Birds also get caught up in the fishing line discarded at the lake, which is debilitating or fatal to them.
The solution: We’re fishing lead-free weights and lures, cleaning up used fishing line, and encouraging others to do the same. It will help make our lakes more attractive, and a more hospitable home to the wildlife we enjoy when we’re out on the water.
