Stewardship Tip – Diligence
By Arshia | May 3, 2011
I am diligent, I am a steward.
Is your company involved in green initiatives? Many corporations have made commitments; some estimates indicate that the overwhelming majority have an initiative of one sort or another.
A recent CompTIA survey indicated that “37 percent of firms rate Green IT as an ‘upper-half’ organizational priority.” That’s up from 9 percent in 2009. In addition, the corporate CEO, in many cases, has become a central part of the green initiative strategy.
Selling a green initiative internally, though, can be tough work. Many corporations have made commitments; many initiatives, unfortunately, remain unfunded and are only spirited forward by volunteers.
There are reasons to be encouraged and to remain diligent. Green initiatives can save the corporation money in operating costs. Reducing power consumption in the server room, for example, translates into a reduced HVAC bill. Reducing printed output lowers not only paper costs but also costs for toners and inks, and costs for maintenance.
Costs savings such as these positively affect the bottom line. When you can make a business case for green initiatives, funding may soon follow.
Green initiatives also benefit our fisheries. A reduced HVAC bill means lower fossil fuel emissions. In regions where coal is used to produce electricity, reduced sulfur dioxide emissions are an immediate benefit. That can lead to a reduction in acid rain…a notorious nemesis of our fisheries.
Your diligence in stewarding corporate green initiatives means that you will also be stewarding our lakes, rivers, and streams. Stand fast; your efforts will eventually reap rewards both at work and on the water.
We are diligent, we are stewards.
