Stewardship Tip May 18th, 2010- Don’t Print, Green Print
When you do need to print a document, you can reduce the number of sheets of paper by printing in duplex (both sides of the page) if your printer supports it. You can also print multiple pages per sheet. On the Mac, select the layout button from the Print dialog and set the pages to two, or more, per sheet. On the PC, you can set the number of pages per sheet by selecting Properties from the Print dialog. For some printer models, you can specify the number of pages per sheet on the Layout tab, on other printers you specify number of pages on the Features tab. It will vary from printer to printer so do some experimenting.
If your eyes are like mine, though, you will need a magnifying glass to read documents that are printed two up per sheet. Actually, investing in a magnifying glass is not a bad idea. It can be helpful in various fishing situations such as threading monofilament through the eye of a size 28 hook. However, in many situations, we many not have one handy and, quite frankly, there are times when we need to print documents and be able to read them without a magnifier.
Printed documents, though, often have blank pages and blank pages waste resources. This can be especially true for documents over which we do not have direct control. For documents such as these, Green Print is a nice utility that helps you to reduce the number of printed sheets of paper required to print a document. Green Print displays your document in preview mode and allows you to select which pages, especially those that are blank, to exclude from your printed output.
When you print, you should make sure that you are not printing blank pages. A print job that contain blanks not only wastes paper, it also wastes the resources that were used to produce it. Those resources could have been used to provide shade to a fish.
