  • Stewardship Tip Dec 21st, 2010- Everything is like the Ocean…

“For everything, like the ocean, flows and comes into contact with everything else: touch it in one place and it reverberates at the other end of the world.”

Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s words, from The Brothers Karamazov, ring true even today over a hundred years since they were first published. As you sow, so shall you reap. Consider…

Every ounce of gas that you save in your vehicle results in fewer emissions. Your actions will lessen the impact of acid deposition on the lakes, streams, and rivers in the Adirondack Mountains.
Reducing printed output decreases the impact on our forests in Oregon.
Choosing Omega-3 supplements that are derived from microphytic algae, flax, or salmon rather than menhaden can help the striper fisheries in the Chesapeake Bay.
A single finger, touching the ocean, will reverberate softly. When many fingers touch the water, the waves become visible. Small changes, such as saving gas, reducing printed output, and choosing products that are not derived from menhaden may seem inconsequential. But, when many people make seemingly inconsequential changes, we impact our fisheries positively. When we do, we increase our chances for more and bigger fish.

Touch the ocean and watch it reverberate.
