    Volunteer with Recycled Fish

    By FishRecycler | February 26, 2009

    Volunteer with Recycled Fish
The stewardship message advances through everyday things we do. We are caretakers of our lakes, streams and seas when we practice catch and release, pick up trash…or install a low flow shower head and CFL light bulbs.

And yet, there are greater things we can do to advance the stewardship ethic, and it takes men and women who are willing to devote time to be leaders.

We’re looking for leaders at Recycled Fish.

Willing to trade in one or two nights of TV time each week for one of our “virtual volunteer” opportunities? Could you help us out by doing a “Stewardship Pledge” event once a month, or even once per quarter? Are you interested in helping with our Gear Lending Program? There are many ways you can help, and if you are willing – we have a job for you!

Many of our volunteer opportunities can be addressed from where you are – wherever that is – whenever your schedule permits!

Here are a few areas where we’re looking for help. Take a look and see where you fit in:

    Recycled Fish Online

Do you know your way around programming? Have the basics, like how to ‘blog?’ We have a great team of people who handle our website, but more help in this area will advance our online presence and help us respond quickly to opportunities and changes. If you know code, we want to know you.

    Volunteer Coordinator

One thing we’re proud of is the awesome team of volunteers we’ve got at Recycled Fish. With nearly 50 people pitching in, we’re really making a difference. Have a way with communication? Willing to check in on a weekly basis with everybody and make sure they’ve got what they need for their projects? If you’re good at encouragement and flow of information, we could use your help.

    Onsite Volunteers & Pledge Ambassadors

Are you willing to show up at Recycled Fish Events to lend a hand with setup, teardown or in executing the event? That could mean running a camera, hosting one of our fun educational games, serving drinks, or inviting people to take the Stewardship Pledge.

Or…would you be willing to take Recycled Fish materials to our partner’s events, and hand out free stuff to people who take the pledge? If you’re a responsible individual with a passion for fishing and the outdoors, and if you enjoy talking fishing and stewardship, you’re well suited to being a Pledge Ambassador.

    Fulfilment Team

We often need help stuffing envelopes for our Stewardship Kits or packing our SAFE Angling Kits. This is simple stuff you can do in front of the TV, but it has a huge impact. You’re helping introduce people to stewardship with every kit you pack, whether it be an envelope or a tackle box. This is also a great community service project for an organization – a small group can knock out a ton of these fast.

    Content Manager & Contributors:

Like to write? Like to read? Want to help find and obtain, or create original stories for Recycled Fish Online? How about conducting interviews with people in the outdoors? As Recycled Fish grows, so are our website and external media properties. There’s opportunity for so much more – want to help in that area? We can use it!

    PR & Publicity:

On any given day, we have some message we need to get out, the trouble is having enough time and people to spread the word. Helping write, send, and follow up on press releases, posting to internet forums, extending e-mail campaigns, posting flyers, coordinating mailings, and other activities are powerful tools to extend stewardship. If you’ve got an interest in working with traditional media (print, television, radio) or emerging / grassroots media (internet, e-mail, person-to-person) then we have projects you can help with!

    Non-Profit Partnership Director & Ambassadors:

Interested in helping coordinate the two-way street between Recycled Fish and other organizations doing good work in the outdoors?

You could do internet research to find out who should know about us, and who we should know about, then contact them with an e-mail to make the connection.

Maybe our partnership will be as simple as reciprocal links on websites, mabye we’ll work together creating publicity around an issue or project, or maybe we can team up for a fundraising event.

The connections you help make will create powerful change, growth, and advancement of the Stewardship Ethic!

    Partnership Development Managers & Ambassadors

We can always use a hand finding sponsor-partners inside and outside the fishing industry who want to connect with anglers and support the resource at the same time.

If you’d like to help find creative ways to connect our projects with the right partners, this could be an awesome fit for you. You might be doing internet reserach, sending out proposals, developing proposals, talking with industry people, and so forth.

Strong potential for this one to become a full-time paid position.

    Grant Writer & Research Associates

Have a knack with words? Creative writing? Technical writing? There’s a little more to the grant process than that, but if you’d be interested in devoting time to helping us find and apply for the right kinds of grants, that would have a tremendous impact. We do have some support in this area now, but it hasn’t been enough to create the kind of forward motion we think is possible. You could be the tipping point!

Fishing Forum Ambassador / Ambassador Coordinator:

Do you spend a good bit of time in online fishing forums? If so, we could use your hand with our online community.

If you “get” online communities, help us out in that area!

    ————-

These are just a handful of the areas in which we need help – if you don’t see something here that sounds like a fit but you want to lend a hand, please let us know. We have work for anyone who is willing with their time, talents and abilities.

We couldn’t have gotten as far as we have without the hard work of our existing volunteer staff. The stewardship ethic is advancing through Recycled Fish because of our awesome team – learn about them by clicking on “Who We Are” at the top of your screen.
