go!Mozingo Tournament Results
By FishRecycler | July 24, 2009

Unseasonably cool (downright comfortable!), a light breeze, and big fat bass made for good times for our first go!Mozingo buddy bass tournament. There weren’t any boats who didn’t come to the scales with fish, most had a limit of chunky-to-downright-beefy-keepers.
With 17 boats (2 anglers per boat) competing for a $2,000 top prize, guys had good odds. Big bass paid $450 and we paid down to third place, 4th place received a Frabill Conservation Series Net.
The event also generated several hundred dollars for our cause, with many thanks to all of the anglers who came from four states to fished with us, and the rockstar volunteer team who pulled it off. Check out the full story for results and more photos.

Nothing like a summer morning on the lake.

Recycled Fish Board Member Rick Riley organized the event with help from ABA Tournament Director Terry Cooper.

And they’re off! Smooth, safe blastoff. Spots matter at Mozingo, and the best sticks know where to go. We auctioned off the first blastoff position, Tom Starnes bid and won the rights to be the first boat out of the gate.

Mid-day, moving spots.

Tournament director Rick Riley and Executive Director Teeg Stouffer -smiling through gritted teeth. It’s fun to be at the lake, but it’s a lot more fun when you’re FISHING! Who says running a non-profit conservation organization is all fun and games?

Volunteers make the world go around and Denny and Cody made a road trip from Omaha – without them it would have been a gruelling day, with their help it was as smooth as glass.

Tournament HQ. We sequestered one of the park shelters for a weigh-in area and stage. Many local fishing tournaments are no-frills affairs, but we provided coffee and pastries before launch and cold beverages after for an optional donation.

Nobody left the go!Mozingo tournament empty handed – literally. That’s thanks to our friends at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Frabill, Sure Life, Bioline, The Clean Environment Company, Robert Montgomery, Folger’s, Reel Magic, and others who donated items for goodie bags and door prizes.
We covered some Stewardship Tips and made sure that every angler had Sure Life and ice in their livewell, all bass came to the scales live and frisky and were returned to the lake promptly following minimal, efficient handling.
So … you’d probably like to see some of those fish, huh?

There’s your big bass of the tournament.

…and a few other scenes from the day …
