Water Log: February 2012
By FishRecycler | February 21, 2012
Congratulations to Kenny V. from Michigan. Kenny won last month’s Challenge to Stewards by joining us as an Online Ambassador.
How would you like to win a big game rod built by Dragon’s Custom Rods? Our current Challenge to Stewards in our Monster Fish Winter comes straight out of DC: Be Heard.
Both in the US and Canada, our leaders are making decisions right now that will have an effect on our waters, and on the sport of fishing, for generations. At both the state and federal level, anglers MUST be heard.
This month, all you have to do is contact one of your representatives at the state or federal level about an issue that matters to you. Then let us know what you did on our Facebook wall or by emailing us.
Three Big Things going on at the cause:
1. We’re introducing Whac-A-Mussel with MRPB, Fishhound, DICK’S Sporting Goods and Clean Angling which is the most fun, exciting, interactive way anyone has ever learned about preventing invasive species.
It’s the kickoff for National Invasive Species Awareness Week, and we’ll also be launching a new column on Fishhound with a series of articles about fishing for invasives like snakeheads and asian carp.
2. We’re also launching our 1 Million Stewards Program at the BASSMASTER Classic.
Now, when someone takes the Sportsman’s Stewardship Pledge, they get a totally new Stewardship Kit. It’s got a shoreline cleanup bag to make every angler a steward of their waters. It’s also got a booklet that talks about how we can be effective stewards, both on and off the water. Finally, you can visit a new page at RecycledFish.org/Rewards where you can show off the trash you’ve removed or other things you’ve done to help our waters – and win prizes for doing the right thing.
3. The Recycled Fish “On Ice” tour continues to take the Stewardship Ethic across the Ice Belt. Unfortunately cancellations have pocked our schedule, but that doesn’t mean that events like the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza – rescheduled from January – haven’t still been big hits, because they have.
This month’s Stewardship Tip: Report Fracking Spills. If you see any spills or dumping near a fracking site, report it immediately.
For this Washington DC update, how about checking out the Rob Snowhite episode of The Fish Schtick? Rob Snowhite is the only full time guide in DC. Catch his episode for crazy stories like how he sold 1300 deals on Groupon.
Coming up on Fish Itch - biodegradable baits, an awesome set of tools from Wright & McGill, and a brand new product that protects your fishing rod when you’re headed from one spot to the next – all at 50% off, with proceeds benefitting Recycled Fish. Have you signed up for Fish Itch yet?
